I think people need to give up on the idea of a purely open and free technology ecosystem. At the end of the day we live in a world ruled by money. Technology costs to develop and implement. If some can give their time for free then so be it. No one has any right to judge people for choosing to make a living off of their effort either. Ultimately as long as the current concept of economics is in play then trying to go 100% free and open is a fool's errand and will quite literally NEVER happen.
For the record I'm not saying I like it. But reality is what reality is. Peaceful coexistence is about as good as it will realistically ever get. I think major strides forward on both sides will be made once people accept this. For the time being it seems as though both sides are somewhat locked in an unwinnable battle for supremacy.
