You never heard of the infamous Katmai? Win98SE, the Swiss Cheese of OS was the perfect vehicle to slip it in.
Never heard of that one before but that garbage OS got me started with Linux. I had Celeron 300a at the time running at the 450 no brain overclock those chips would do with a nice Sound Blaster Awe 64 card in the box. "Upgraded" to that piece of junk OS and all that top of the line card would do after that was play a midi file. Downgrading to the 98, 95 a, b or c had not results at all. Went to the local computer store to buy another card and seen this Redhat 5.2 disk for sale nice and cheap, I had been hearing/reading about this Linux thing so said what the hell and gave it a try. A simple sndconfig later putting in my irq and dma settings for the card after install and I had sound once more. That was the last day any Microsoft OS has been in use for my personal day to day use, it has been over 25 years since that incident coming up on 26 in May.
