Beginners Questions • Debian 12: how disable automatic call of grub-install ?

If you mean during installation then you could tell the installer not to install grub when asked during the installation, but be sure to know your own methods of being able to boot the system without it.

If on the other hand you mean after installation and during the course of upgrades then it might be an unwise choice as a grub update would be required when installing a new kernel for instance, otherwise you could not use it when starting the machine until such time as you manually update it.

There could be other reasons for wanting to do this of course and if you simply do not want to update to a newer version, which (sometimes?) causes it to re-install then you could pin the grub package(s) involved.

Yes I mean after installation. I use multiboot with openSUSE Tumbleweed on btrfs which Debian's grub can't access so I boot Debian using TW's grub (or I edit kernel number so as to boot latest kernel).

Will not I risk other problems if I pin (debian) grub package ?
